Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1

Arrival in Rovaniemi — Welcome to the Arctic Circle

    Morning

    Arrival in Rovaniemi

Landing at Rovaniemi Airport, the official capital of Finnish Lapland. Shuttle or taxi transfer to your accommodation. Snowy landscapes and the blue-tinted light of the arctic winter greet you as you step off the plane.

    Afternoon

Santa Claus Village & Arctic Circle

Visit Santa Claus Village, Santa's official village located exactly on the Arctic Circle. Meet Santa in his office, send postcards from the official post office (special Arctic Circle stamp), and cross the magical line of 66°33' north latitude marked on the ground.

    Evening

Lappish Dinner & First Aurora Hunt

Enjoy a traditional Lappish dinner in a kota (Finnish teepee): salmon soup, smoked reindeer meat, and arctic berries. After dinner, head into the polar night for your first attempt at spotting the Northern Lights — the Rovaniemi area offers about 150 aurora nights per year.

  2. Day 2

    Husky Sled Safari

    Morning

    Husky Farm & Briefing

Head to a husky farm to meet these passionate sled dogs. You'll learn to drive your own team of 4 to 6 huskies. The briefing covers driving techniques, braking, and communicating with the dogs. The puppy cuddle session is an irresistible bonus.

    Afternoon

    Craft Village & Lappish Shopping

After the husky excitement, relax by exploring Rovaniemi's craft shops. Discover Sami craftsmanship: silver and reindeer antler jewelry, traditional knives (puukko), felted wool clothing. The Christmas market on Lordi Square offers local products and glögi (Finnish mulled wine).

    Evening

    Traditional Finnish Sauna

Experience the most Finnish tradition there is: the sauna. Almost all Lapland accommodations have a sauna. Alternate between the sauna heat (80-100°C) and rolling in fresh snow — an invigorating local tradition. Finish with a light meal and hot chocolate.

  3. Day 3

    Snowmobile Expedition into the Wilderness

    Morning

    Snowmobile Safari through Arctic Forest

Hop on your snowmobile for an expedition through snow-covered spruce forests and frozen rivers of Lapland. The 3-hour safari takes you through pristine white landscapes, far from civilization. The feeling of freedom gliding over fresh snow is unmatched.

    Afternoon

    Arktikum — Arctic Museum

Visit Arktikum, the Arctic museum and science center. This spectacular building with its 172-meter glass tunnel explores the history, culture, and nature of Lapland and the Arctic. Exhibits on Northern Lights, the Sami people, and climate change are fascinating.

    Evening

    Fireside Dinner & Lappish Legends

Dinner in a traditional fireside restaurant. Try sautéed reindeer, Lapland's national dish, served with mashed potatoes and lingonberry jam. The intimate setting of a log restaurant with crackling fireplace is the essence of Lappish hospitality.

  4. Day 4

    Reindeer Farm & Sami Culture

    Morning

Reindeer Farm Visit & Sleigh Ride

Visit a traditional reindeer farm run by Sami herders. Learn about the thousand-year relationship between the Sami people and reindeer, then embark on a reindeer sleigh ride through the snowy forest. The slow pace and forest silence create a moment of pure magic.

    Afternoon

    Sami Culture — Local Exhibition

Deepen your discovery of Sami culture through a local exhibition or cultural workshop. Discover yoik (traditional Sami singing), duodji craftsmanship, and the history of this indigenous people who have lived in the Arctic for over 10,000 years. Several farms offer immersive workshops.

    Evening

    Glass Igloo Night (Optional)

For an unforgettable experience, spend a night in a heated glass igloo where you can watch the Northern Lights from your bed. The transparent ceiling offers a direct view of the Arctic starry sky. If budget doesn't allow, glass igloos can be replaced by an equally charming traditional wooden cabin.

  5. Day 5

    Ice Fishing & Arctic Nature

    Morning

Ice Fishing on a Frozen Lake

Experience ice fishing on one of Lapland's many frozen lakes. A local guide drills a hole in the thick ice and teaches you traditional techniques. The patience and silence of this activity, surrounded by the vast white expanse, is deeply soothing.

    Afternoon

    Snowshoeing in the Boreal Forest

Strap on snowshoes for a hike through the snowy boreal forest. The guide shows you animal tracks (hares, foxes, moose), arctic survival techniques, and secrets of the Finnish taiga. The total silence of the forest under snow is a unique sensory experience.

    Evening

    Ice Swimming & Sauna

For the daring, try avantus — ice swimming. After a sauna session at 80°C, plunge for a few seconds into a hole cut in a frozen lake. The adrenaline and endorphins that follow create a unique euphoric sensation. An ancestral Finnish tradition.

  6. Day 6

Transfer to Levi — Arctic Ski Resort

    Morning

    Drive to Levi & Check-in

Head to Levi (170 km, 2h north of Rovaniemi), Finland's largest ski resort. The drive passes through spectacular tundra and boreal forest landscapes. On arrival, settle into your wooden chalet at the foot of the slopes.

    Afternoon

    First Ski Runs at Levi

Hit the slopes at Levi, which has 43 runs and 28 lifts. Slopes are lit in December (polar night demands it), creating a fairy-tale atmosphere unique in the world. The resort caters to all levels, from beginners to advanced skiers.

    Evening

    Après-Ski & Levi Ice Bar

Enjoy Levi's lively après-ski scene. The village is full of warm bars and restaurants. Highlight: visit the Ice Bar, a bar built entirely of ice where even the glasses are carved from ice. Cocktails are served at -5°C amid ice sculptures.

  7. Day 7

    Morning

    Skiing or Snowboarding at Levi

Second day on Levi's slopes. Explore the sides you haven't discovered yet. The south-facing runs offer the best views of Lappish fells (tunturi). For thrill-seekers, guided off-piste skiing through birch forests is an unforgettable experience.

    Afternoon

    Tobogganing & Hot Chocolate

Try Levi's toboggan run, a natural 1.3 km descent through the snowy forest. The activity is suitable for everyone and guaranteed laughs. After the run, warm up in a café with thick, creamy Finnish hot chocolate.

    Evening

    Northern Lights Photography Tour

Join a specialized Northern Lights photography tour with a professional photographer. Levi, further north than Rovaniemi, offers better viewing chances. The guide takes you far from light pollution and helps you set your camera for long-exposure aurora captures.
