Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Arrival in Rovaniemi

    Morning

    Arrivée à Rovaniemi & installation

Land at Rovaniemi Airport (RVN), 10 km north of the center. Bus 8 reaches downtown and continues to Santa Claus Village (~€4, 15 min). A taxi runs €25-35. Check into your hotel (in town) or your glass igloo (20-40 min drive, e.g. Glass Resort, Kakslauttanen or Apukka Resort). Pick up the thermal suit provided by the hotel (often included for activities) and enjoy a hot coffee with a pulla (Finnish cardamom bun) before the afternoon on the Arctic Circle.

    Afternoon

Village du Père Noël & cercle polaire

Visit the Santa Claus Village, located exactly on the Arctic Circle (66°33'N). Meet Santa Claus in his office (year-round), cross the Arctic Circle line marked on the ground and send a postcard from Santa's official post office (special Arctic postmark - arrives for Christmas if sent before late November). Visit the adjacent reindeer farm and Mrs. Claus's Christmas Cottage.

    Evening

    Première chasse aux aurores boréales

First Northern Lights hunt. Join a tour away from city lights. The aurora borealis is a life-changing sight.

  2. Day 2

    Husky Safari & Forest Life

    Morning

    Safari en traîneau à chiens

Husky safari through snowy forest. Drive your own sled team of 4-6 huskies through pristine Arctic wilderness.

    Afternoon

Visite d'une ferme de rennes Sami

Visit a reindeer farm and learn about Sámi culture. Reindeer sleigh ride, coffee by a fire in a lavvu (Sámi tent).

    Evening

    Sauna finlandais & dîner lapon

Dinner in a snow restaurant or ice bar. Traditional Lappish cuisine: reindeer stew, salmon, cloudberry dessert.

  3. Day 3

    Snowmobile & Ice Fishing

    Morning

    Safari motoneige dans la wilderness

Snowmobile safari across frozen lakes and through Arctic forests. Reach remote spots no car could access.

    Afternoon

    Pêche sur glace

Traditional ice fishing on a frozen lake. Drill a hole, drop a line, wait in silence. Guide prepares catch over open fire.

    Evening

    Aurores boréales (deuxième chance)

Finnish sauna: alternate between 80-100°C heat and rolling in fresh snow. An essential cultural ritual.

  4. Day 4

    Arctic Day Trip

    Morning

Route vers Inari & paysages arctiques

Icebreaker cruise in the Gulf of Bothnia (from Kemi). The ship breaks sea ice, then you swim in survival suits among the ice chunks.

    Afternoon

    Musée Sami Siida

Visit LumiLinna Snow Castle (Kemi) or SnowVillage (Kittilä). Ice architecture rebuilt every winter with new themes.

    Evening

Dîner au bord du lac gelé & aurores

Dine in a lakeside villa beside the frozen Inarijärvi lake at 69N, one of Finland's best aurora spots: zero light pollution and a flat 360-degree horizon make every aurora outburst spectacular.

  5. Day 5

    Cross-Country Skiing & Departure

    Morning

Randonnée en raquettes dans la taïga

Cross-country skiing or snowshoeing through Arctic landscape - a gentler way to experience the silence and beauty.

    Afternoon

Retour vers Rovaniemi & Ice Bar

Drive 3 hours back to Rovaniemi with a roadside cafe stop in Laanila, then visit the Arctic Snow Hotel or an ice bar where walls, tables and glasses are sculpted entirely from ice.

    Evening

Transfert vers l'aéroport de Rovaniemi & vol retour

Head to Rovaniemi Airport (RVN), 10 km north of the center. Bus 8 runs directly to the terminal (~€4, 20 min). A taxi runs €25-35. Most international flights connect through Helsinki-Vantaa (HEL) - 1h30 Finnair domestic flight. Allow 2h before a Schengen flight, 3h for a long-haul via Helsinki. The terminal is small and warm (Lapland wood decor). Hyvästi Lappi.
